Accumulator chains AFS: for optimal equipment and finger protection
Accumulator chains are employed when goods must be conveyed, accumulated, accelerated again and then separated in a simple and gentle manner. They are primarily used in feeding and automation technology. But they also come into operation in other areas of conveyance technology such as processing and assembly lines as well as in a number of different storage and material flow systems.
Accumulator chains have a so-called conveyor roller at every other pitch. This enlarged roller is required for the transport of the material to be conveyed. It ensures the smooth running of the chain under the goods during accumulation without damaging them.
The chain link joint between the conveyor rollers constitutes a larger gap into which small parts such as screws, washers and chips as well as other particulate material might enter, and then damage the chain or the entire system. Depending on the respective application area, there is also the danger of somebody’s fingers reaching into these gaps when working on transport and assembly lines, which might cause injuries.
Due to the flat design of the ASF clip, the gaps between conveyor rollers are completely closed. The two-piece clip is mounted onto the chain bushing of the inner link and, owing to its innovative hinge system, also covers the danger zone in the deflection range of the chain. Therefore both-way deflections e.g. for omega drives are still possible.
Thus the accumulator chain with AFS clip ensures a trouble-free operation of conveyance and assembly systems, and it contributes considerably to operational safety according to valid machinery directives.
Depending on the required application, conveyor rollers with different diameters and made of different materials (steel, PA 6.6, PA 12 antistatic) can be supplied.
Accumulator chains are also available in stainless steel, as Marathon maintenance-free chains, and in duplex or triplex designs. In case of the duplex design, the roller distance is only half that of the simplex design since the conveyor rollers are staggered. For long conveyance distances lateral guide plates are recommended.
Retrofitting for increased safety
The AFS clip, this innovative and easily mountable safety feature, can be retrofitted on every standard accumulator chain with conveyor roller diameters of 24 mm and 26 mm. No tools are necessary – the pieces are simply pressed into the chain from above. The correct position is ensured by a clear snapping of the clip onto the chain.
